DVB-T2 tested in Spain
10-08-2009
A group of researchers from the University of Seville have taken part in tests of the second generation of DTT, technically known as DVB-T2.
These tests come after those carried out in Turin and London, turning Spain into one of the most advanced countries in the DTT field.
The DVB-T2 standard is used for high definition broadcasts over DTT. The prototype receiver was made by Spain's Sidsa.
The results of the tests will be used to study the coverage and quality of the new standard as well as to validate the guides of implementation recently published on a worldwide level. Tests are valid for both terrestrial and mobile broadcasts.
The project, part of the global project called Furia has been led by Spain's main TV signal distribution operator Abertis Telecom and a total of 27 national partners took part in it. The budget for the tests was €9 million.

Four French national channels going HD over-the-air this month

Apparently all that's necessary to get a lagging country to hop on the high-def bandwagon is to talk bad about 'em, or at least that's the case here with France. After we heard that the nation wasn't exactly rushing out to adopt HD, in comes word that four major French channels will soon be available in high-definition on digital terrestrial TV (DTT). TF1 HD, France 2 HD, M6 HD and Arte HD will all begin broadcasting OTA in HD on October 30th, and while all of these are already available on other platforms, we can only imagine that beaming 'em out gratis will greatly increase HD awareness. Any other nations want to follow suit? Oh, and France, way to be a role model out there.
België zal weer als laatste in de rij aanschuiven (ook 10 jaar na DVB-S (1995), kwam telenet met digitale tv)
