BBox 2 - viable alternatives

Hi all,
sorry if I'm picking up a well-discussed issue, but my Dutch and French are just absolutely insufficient to do a thorough search. I have Belgacom triple-play with IPTV and analog phone line, and as with so many of us, the BBox 2 annoys the hell out of me (especially the random wi-fi outages).

The question is relatively simple: is the Fritzbox 7390 the only viable alternative to our beloved Sagem product? If not, which other routers can be used? Is there a set of specifications that an alternative has to fulfill?

Thanks in advance.

You can buy a router (linksys, tplink, ...) and let that device do the PPPoE connection. In that case you use the bbox2 as a modem in stead of a router.

Yeah, but as far as I understand it, the bbox would have to be set to bridge mode. Is this reversible and is the bbox accessible after being set to bridge?

No reason at all to change anything to the B-box2 settings.
By default, the B-box2 is "PPPoE passtrough" enabled.

Once you have successfully connected your router to make the Internet connection (PPPoE), you can decide to switch off the B-box2 WLAN (not mandatory, but useless). Your TV remains connected to the B-box

However, if WiFI is your only concern, then you are better off by placing an extra WiFi access point behind the B-box.

In case you don't want 2 devices (B-box + router), you can use the FritzBox 7390 (VDSL + IPTV), but be aware that the FB is not approved by Belgacom for vectoring. Once vectoring is applied on your line, the FritzBox will be put on a fall-back profile (7mbps) :-( .
