Maxi distance for ADSL 4 Mbps

Hello !
I have been told that the maximum distance from the central for 4 Mbps is 3 km.
Which speed is possible from 3.5 km ? The synchro is done at 4096 but I have never more than 2.6 Mbps, that's even less than with my former ISP (3.3 Mbps Turboline) and now I am on 4 Mbps (KPN)
STP PPP always on.
TIA for FB,
JacK

You will be able to get more then 1.1 Mbit,
what ISP do you have now, and wich did you have before?
propably you had skynet before, it is possible that you have a better line on skynet, it depends on how belgacom (skynet) handels the transfer of your line to another ISP (if this would be the case)

JacK , sorry to say this, but you are VERY lucky to be having 2,6Mbps at the moment. There are big problems with the Scarlet network (former KPN) in general.
Most of us (90%), me inlcuded, only get about 100kbit for the moment. So please, bear with it...
The max distance is not 3km. You can 8Mbit up to 3,5km. 4Mbit up to ~5km.

To make someting clear:
Your maximumspeed isn't only determined by the distance to the LEX, but also involves the quality of your line, splitters, your computerconfig and the network you are hooked onto.
If you have a regular synch at 4096, without any synchloss or other problems, you aren't too far from the lex.. if you can sych that much.. you don't have troubles. If you would have synchloss, or connections drops.. or you would synch at 3856Kbit/s, this would mean you are too far from a LEX.
So, I think in your situation everything is quite alright

Max distances.. you got them already in posts above.. but do keep in mind that is not the only factor determining your speed

Tnx everybody for feedback
I know I am 3.5 km far from the lex and I have no problem with my line.
I am just assuming my new ISP is pulling my leg saying I am to far from the lex to get 4 Mbps
When I was on Turboline I always had about 2.850 kbps and now, for 3 months on KPN, the bandwith varies between 700 et 2600 kbps from one minute to the other.
I reckon it's KPN who does not give enough quota to my central, the ISP assures it rents enough bandwith....

Guest,
I don't know if you understand dutch or you can read it. Otherwise you should read following topic:
http://www.userbase.be/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=
This topic explains, that ALL ISP's who are using the Scarlet netwerk (=former KPN) are having difficulties with their downstream (not upstream). Your line will be perfectly in order.
This problem is being revised on monday and pressure is coming from top level at Scarlet to solve this problem by the end of next week.
Nobody is pulling your leg, with quota or whatever, there is a national problem on the Scarlet network.
I would say, let's take a hold on this subject..if it's concerns the national problem, we would like to concentrate these posts in the topic mentionned above.
Conclusion: have some patience, and hopefully by the end of next week, you will get the full capacity of your line.
